What is the importance of the 3rd nail?
The 3rd nail is the term used literally for a 3rd nail that is installed onto the hurricane strap that wraps around the truss. Adding the 3rd nail adds an additional 500 - 600 lbs of lift protection. This makes it harder for a strong storm to pull your roof off. The hurricane strap is imbedded into the block wall and wraps around the truss. This upgrade typically saves the homeowner 25% - 35% on their premiums and cost between $1,200- $1,800 on an average home.

By Florida Code, your roofing contractor must confirm you have 3 or more Nails on your Hurricane Straps if your home has an insured value of more than $300,000. Mandated retrofits shall not be required beyond a 15% increase in the cost of reroofing, according to FBC 706.8
